Classic Lotus Cortina owner wins £5,000 fund

A LUCKY Lotus Cortina owner has won a £5,000 prize to make improvements and restorations to his car. Pete Shaw was awarded the prize by Footman James classic car insurance at last month’s Classic Motor Show. His beloved 1966 Mk1 Airflow Lotus Cortina had been entered into the competition with much-needed work on the cards.

This year will see the seventh running of the annual LA Auto Show Design Challenge when the industry circus hits the US west coast in November. All participating studios have been tasked to envision a 1000lb (454kg) 2+2 vehicle that is both comfortable and secure while delivering satisfactory driving performance without sacrificing the emotional connection and beautiful styling today's consumers demand. For the first time, design studios from outside the US – from both Germany and Japan – will compete for the prize.

Despite being labeled as the ‘Demio’ in the official Japanese pics, Mazda’s small Fiesta rival will continue to be known as the Mazda 2 in Europe - but unlike the last generation it will only be available as a five-door hatchback. Made in Hofu in Japan, the Mazda 2 adopts the firm’s Kodo design language that was first seen on the Mazda 6.
