The three generations of the BMW X5 meet The new BMW X5 has just been revealed, and it follows the formula of its predecessors to deliver a new X5 that has more of everything previous X5s offered – performance, economy, space, practicality and luxury. BMW like to call the X5 an ‘SAV’ (Sports Activity vehicle) to differentiate it from real SUVs; although the X5 has four-wheel drive it’s not really a mud-plugger like a Land Rover, but more a 5-Series on stilts. But it’s a successful formula that started with the first generation X5 (E53) in 1999.

UK drivers becoming more aggressive

DRIVERS in the UK are becoming more aggressive, with 61% saying they use their car’s horn at least once a month. They are using the horn in anger at other drivers rather than its proper purpose of warning other drivers of your presence. A study by Flexed shows drivers are also using more anti-social tactics than before, with 33% of drivers admitting to changing lanes multiple times in traffic jams to try to get further ahead.

In a surprise announcement, Honda has decided to close design operations in Europe, based in Germany. The decision to shut down both the car design and motorcycle design studios of Honda R&D Europe (HRE-G) in Offenbach, near Frankfurt was taken at the end of September and came as a shock announcement to employees. It represents the latest casualty in cuts for the car design community.
