Springfield, Missouri, United States
Condition:Used Brand:GM Warranty:No Manufacturer Part Number:3731548/block 3849847/crankshaft

Up for sale is a 1957 283 Chevy small block with crankshaft and rods.  The engine casting number is 3731548 and the block is dated C197 (March 19, 1957).  The front pad reads F325EL.  The front pad stamping looks original however someone has added the "L" and did a poor job to make it look like a Corvette 283ci, 283hp, manual transmission motor.

The engine checks out as standard at top of cylinders but would need to be bored since there is a ring groove.  The rods and pistons are not original to the block.

The crankshaft is GM part $3849847 which is a 283 small journal crank.  I checked a rod journal and a main journal an they checked standard at 1.998 and 2.2995.  The engine does have the main caps.

There is some pitting around some of the water holes on deck so would need to be decked.

I have not had the block checked at a machine shop but I do not see any visible signs of problems, so the motor is sold "as is".

Also included are as follows:
Reconditioned oil canister with decal
Intake manifold: part #3844459, dated I156
Reconditioned set of Chevrolet script steel valve covers
Rear end housing only-(no gears)-part #3844459, dated L156

Local pickup only. There will be a charge if you want me to prepare parts for shipper pickup.

The Jaguar C-X17 Concept (pictured) teased for Frankfurt We’ve been pretty sure for some time that a Jaguar SUV Concept (or, really, a Jaguar Crossover Concept) will arrive at the Frankfurt Motor Show this month. And so it is. The Jaguar C-X17 Concept is being teased today, and it’s clear this is Jaguar’s new, small Crossover aiming to take a much bigger slice of the world’s premium market than anything else currently in the Jaguar range.

Tomorrow's world: lightweight carbon composites

Mon, 10 Oct 2011

Once all the dust settles on The Great Battery Farce (the idea that the world's ills will be taken care of by sticking a battery in everything that moves and charging it up) we may eventually face up to the fact that the best way to move something around more economically, is to move less of it. That means making things lighter, a lot lighter. Car makers are working on it and manufacturers like Audi and Jaguar have already become masters in bringing aluminium to the mass production.
