1957 Chevy Bel Air 210 Nomad Hardtop, Convertible, Wagon, Sedan Hub Caps - Set 3 on 2040-parts.com
Placerville, California, US
This Auction is for a set of four 1957 Bel Air hub caps. These fit all 1957 Chevy 14” wheels that have the three “nubs” which retain the hub cap by a creating a friction fit. No “nubs”, no way will these stay in place.
I am offering 4 sets of this style hub cap. This is set 3. It is a good driver set that has some damage quite normal for 67 year old hub caps. The upper left hub cap has two small dimples on the outer edge near the valve stem hole; Upper right hub cap has a small dent at the 12 o’clock position (end of the star), a dent/wrinkle about 1:30 o’clock on the same raised surface, and a scrape/tiny dent at the center of the crest (center of the wheel cover), and other small scratches. Lower right hub cap is free of dimples and dents but has some small scratches. Lower left hub cap has three very small dents. Two are between the black center and first ridge at 12:30 and 2:30 positions about 1” from the edge of the ;paint. The third is just to the left (11:45) and above the end of the 12:00 star. The nature of these three dents is such that, with care, they could be taken care of easily. The center black paint is worn off in places on all of them (see pics). They all have a shine but need a compound buffing to remove the scratches. This is a good driver quality set of used wheel covers.
Background stuff…important wheel cover shopping info:
All of the original full disk 57 hub caps are made from stainless steel. The most important qualitative aspect a buyer should be concerned with when buying wheel covers is whether there is physical damage; scratches, scrapes (curb rash), dimples (tiny dents), and serious dents. Most damage can be worked out by a skilled metal man but it can cost a lot of time and money to get them back into shape. Next, because they are stainless, it means that, besides being rust resistant, they can all be made to shine equally, given an application of proper polishing compounds, professionally operated equipment, and techniques. If you see a dull looking hub cap and think it is never going to look as good as the shiny one in the other auction, think again. Still a time and money factor, but much less than dent repair $$. Lastly, the black paint used on the centers and around the perimeter of the hub cap is a factor in pricing. For show quality, the more coverage the better. The more coverage, the higher the price for originals. For non-show nice drivers, it is not uncommon to see restorers polish off the black paint in the center and leave it that way. Others clean off the paint and use the flat black vinyl decals offered by Danchuk and others. Of course, a buyer can keep it real simple by buying a reproduction wheel cover for North of $100 per piece.
There are a few more Chevy models that used 14” wheels (with nubs). Some 1958 GM 14” wheels were equipped with “nubs”.
These are sold, “As Is”; no returns or refunds. The pictures are of the actual hub caps in this set and can be enlarged to see a knat’s pimple, so look carefully before buying. If you want additional pictures, please ask.

Design boss plans Hyundai's next big splash
Mon, 11 Jun 2012Every two weeks, Christopher Chapman makes the rounds at Hyundai's Irvine, Calif., design center to see what his team has in the "corner stack." The "stack" is a pile of index card-sized sketches on the corner of every designer's desk. For Chapman, Hyundai's U.S. design boss, it's a way to encourage his designers to keep ideas flowing.
GM to buy Tesla? Seems highly unlikely
Wed, 01 Jan 2014GM to buy Tesla? Seems highly unlikely Tesla is more like a technology company than a car maker, but it’s managed to turn out a very able car in the Model S; perhaps the only car made so far that really is an alternative to an ICE car. That success has lead a US analyst - Yra Harris of Praxis – to declare that GM has Tesla in its sights as an acquisition target in 2014.
