Up for bid is a vintage OEM rear view mirror with original mounting bracket for a 1958 Chevy convertible vehicle – part #3760319 M1571B. The mirror is in good overall condition, but does have some minor condition issues (see PICs). The original mirror glass appears to still be in the mirror, but the previous owner covered it with a hand cut piece of shaded mirror. The mirror surface has some scratches and smudging, but still works good. The outside chrome is also in good condition, but there is some pitting on the surface (see PICs). On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being like new, I’d rate this mirror at 7.5 for its overall condition. This is not a show quality item, but will be a very respectable ‘driver’ right out of the box. This mirror was purchased at an estate sale in southern California and is being listed based on information I received from the previous owner and my Internet research. As the 2009 Michelin Challenge Design - focusing on the search for ‘America's Next Iconic Vehicle' - drew to a close at the NAIAS in Detroit, culminating in a press preview and an exhibition of scale models, the theme for next year's competition was announced: ‘Electrifying! Beautiful, Innovative and Radiant'. While it may sound like a slogan for a new line of women's cosmetics, this theme does in fact center on the increasingly relevant field of electric vehicle (EV) design; or more specifically the need to combine sustainable powertrains with attractive, well executed design.
