MOTOR DESCRIPTION:
This auction is for the pictured 1958 model year Johnson Model CD-15 short shaft 5 1/2 horsepower outboard motor- a decent looking ALL original motor that is only missing the plastic medallion best I can tell. I have owned this motor for about two weeks and have been too busy to do much of anything but check it over for completeness and I did compression test it- 90 pounds even on both cylinders- nice even compression. These 5 1/2 horsepower motors will run with 65 pounds and the more you have than that, the nicer they will run.
I did also remove the peek window on the top of the flywheel to observe condition fo the ignition components. i saw one TINY hairline crack each in each coil. The motor does not throw spark right now. It's probably safe to say that it will need new coils to be a really good reliable motor. The last thing you need is for the motor to warm up and then tiny crack in a coil short out to the mag plate and you have to paddle home. Sometimes "no spark" is from dirty points or failed condenser but any sort of visible cracks in coils are bad.
This one should be a great running motor after some basic cleanup. The cylinder head does have paint stripped away- from an OLD mouse nest. But with good strong and even compression, the mouse nest did no damage. The motor does not stink like mouse urine. These 5 1/2 horsepower OMC's are legendary GREAT fishing motors- will idle down to a troll and sip modestly on the fuel at all times. NO RESERVE!!!
TRANSACTION TERMS:

May sales slide 4 percent on rising fuel prices, tight vehicle supplies
Wed, 01 Jun 2011U.S. light vehicle sales dropped 4 percent in May--the first decline since August--as rising gas prices, inventory shortages, higher stickers and economic jitters curbed demand. The pace of sales last month--11.78 million units on an annualized basis--was the year's lowest and marked the first seasonally adjusted total below 12 million units in seven months.
