Item:     1958 “MOTOR’S”  FLAT RATE & PARTS MANUAL

Description:    For sale is a 1958 MOTOR’S Flat Rate & Parts Manual.   Before computers were commonplace this guide was the “bible” for mechanics to help figure out how long any specific mechanical job would take and what specific parts were involved in doing the job.    This book covers all DOMESTIC CARS cars from Buicks’s to Willy’s!   It is a HIGHLY DETAILED book with schematics for a huge variety of mechanical jobs.   The book is 1166 pages long.  I am sure my photos will best further describe this Vintage Mechanics “bible”.

Condition:   I am really impressed how well this book has held up over the last 50+ years!   The covers and the spine binding are in really fine condition with only a bit of fading on the Title area.  The front/back covers do not have any tears or large scuffs.  Keeping in mind this was a “working” book, in a garage, the pages actually look pretty good.  True, there are some oily fingerprints here and there, but surely not so much that could be regarded as ruining the book.  The pages are 97% tear free.  The book is complete with no missing pages.  Also, as I looked through it, I did NOT find even one pen/pencil mark anywhere.    On a scale of 1 – 10 (ten being brand new), I would rate the condition of this book to be a solid 7.5.  If it wasn’t for some oily fingerprints, I would have given it much higher.   I am confident my photos are an accurate depiction of this books TRUE condition.

Thu, 09 Jun 2011

Car Design News hosted a new webinar with Icona Solutions yesterday, June 8th. Focusing on perceived quality in the digital design world, Icona Solutions' Dr John Maxfield explained how the company's aesthetica software – which enables design teams to gain early insight and resolve fit and finish issues – can improve perceived quality and craftsmanship. Hosted by Dr John Maxfield, Technical Director and Founder of Icona Solutions Ltd, the webinar demonstrates how aesthetica helps designers produce realistic images of real world products, including materials / color / finishes, with targets to allow early perceived quality reviews.

GM's historic Willow Run plant closes

Fri, 24 Dec 2010

After 68 years of arming the nation and putting America on wheels, the Willow Run manufacturing plant in southeast Michigan closed on Thursday. The 5-million-square-foot powertrain plant, owned by Motors Liquidation Corp., the remnants of the former General Motors Corp., has fallen victim to GM's 2009 bankruptcy and subsequent restructuring. About 300 workers left at the plant will either “retire, transfer to another campus or go on layoff,” said Chris Lee, a spokesman for the reorganized General Motors Co.

Aston Martin Cygnet Concept – an ‘Urban’ Aston Martin

Mon, 29 Jun 2009

The Aston Martin Cygnet Concept - an 'Urban' Aston Martin based on the Toyota iQ I have to confess, we didn’t see this coming – an Aston Martin based on the pocket-sized Toyota iQ. This must, by a very long way, be the smallest Aston Martin ever conceived. But it seems to have been conceived to be the ‘Urban’ alternative to a big DB9 or DBS.
