Buick Excelle and Invicta at Beijing
Mon, 21 Apr 2008By Guy Bird Motor Shows 21 April 2008 16:02 Why would such a quintessentially American brand like Buick unveil its cars in China first? Simple economics: China overtook the USA as Buick’s number one market over a year ago, allegedly on the back of the reputation of the old emperor of China having a preference for the brand. Buick (and parent brand GM) couldn’t be happier as the Buick Excelle has become a top ten seller over here. Buick’s double launchGiven this Chinese love it makes perfect sense for GM to launch not one but two cars at the 2008 Beijing motor show.
1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Prototype set to break auction record
Thu, 21 Jul 2011The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Prototype will be at Pebble Beach 2011 Yes, much of the world is labouring under an economic cloud, but that doesn’t stop the world’s wealthy car collectors bidding for very special cars such as this 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Prototype. This particular 250 TR is something rather special – although they all are, of course – because it is one of the original prototypes for the Testa Rossa and is expected to beat the current world car auction record – around $30M for a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic – when it appears at Pebble Beach next month. Aston Martin outlines Centenary celebrations
Mon, 17 Dec 2012Aston Martin celebrates its centenary year in 2013 and has outlined plans to celebrate 100 years of Aston Martin. Officially, Aston Martin was founded in 1913 – although it was not until after the first world war ended that they actually started proper production – and with 2013 marking 100 years of Aston Martin there are celebrations planned throughout the year. On 15th January – exactly 100 years since Aston Martin was incorporated – the oldest surviving Aston Martin – the A3 – will join the latest Aston Martin Vanquish at Henniker Mews in Chelsea, where Aston Martin originally operated, to unveil a plaque to commemorate the anniversary with the Aston Martin Heritage Trust Walter Hayes Memorial Lecture taking place that evening with Sir John Standing telling the story of Lionel Martin’s early experiences.
