Teased last week on Mercedes’ Facebook page, the new ML63 is exactly what we expected from the quickest SUV Mercedes has ever produced. As expected the ML63 gets the new Mercedes twin-turbo 5.5 litre V8.In the ML63 it delivers 518bhp and 516lb/ft of torque enough, Mercedes say, to dispatch the 0-60mph sprint in a ridiculous 4.7 seconds and on to a limited 155mpoh top speed.

Supported by Adolf Hitler's Nazi government, the two brands had grander plans to demonstrate Germany's technological supremacy. In August 1936, Auto Union engineer Ferdinand Porsche and race car driver Hans Stuck approached Wilhelm Kissel, chairman of Daimler-Benz, and presented a plan to build a car that would set a new land speed world record.
