1961 car - with 20 miles on the clock

A 52-YEAR-OLD classic car with one careful lady owner and only 20 miles on the clock is expected to fetch thousands at auction in Norfolk. The rare Triumph Herald is virtually brand new and still has its original 1961 tax disc, costing £15, on its windscreen. Auctioneer Tristram Belemore-Smith said: "The car dealer sold the Triumph Herald to a lady customer in 1961 and it was delivered to her home on a trailer.

Merc to revive straight six, plus 4cyl and smaller V8s

Mercedes has just signed off a new engine family which will see most full-sized Mercs in future run four-cylinders, downsized V8s and… straight sixes. A friendly Mercedes engineer recently met CAR to disclose the engine plans for future models, including the surprise disclosure that Merc plans to switch to straight sixes, like its rivals over in Munich.  It's fair to say I almost choked on my breakfast croissant when I found out the details of the next MB engine generation which has just been signed off for release in 2015. Mercedes SL (2012): aluminium saves 8% weight

Mercedes' new 2012 SL will weigh a solid 140kg less than today's SL roadster - a significant saving of some 8%. This crash diet has been enabled by the adoption of aluminium for the new SL. The learnings from the SLS gullwing are now trickling down to the higher-volume SL, which will be revealed in December 2011.
