Friday in Le Mans: Prerace parade and car show thrills crowds
Sat, 11 Jun 2011The 24 Hours of Le Mans doesn't start until Saturday at 3 p.m. French time, but as anyone here will tell you, the festivities began much earlier in the week. On Friday, I had the opportunity to visit the Driver's Parade and car show in downtown Le Mans, a five-hour festival that brings out what appeared to be half the town, plus many race enthusiasts from around the globe.

Apart from proving engineers do have a sense of humour with the name, this all carbonfibre creation can travel over 370 miles on a sunny day and actually contribute energy back to the grid, making this the world’s first ever ‘energy-positive’ car. Pace cadets: At AMG academy, students take their finals with their right feet
Mon, 02 Nov 2009Mercedes-Benz USA launched the AMG Challenge in 2002, a program touted as "a chance to experience the thrill of driving the newest Mercedes AMGs on some of America's best racetracks." This year, MBUSA abandoned the Challenge in favor of the AMG Driving Academy, a multistage driver-development program pioneered by AMG in Europe. The difference? According to Greg Clark, AMG manager, "the Challenge was more about the cars, while the Academy is more about the driver." Having participated in both the Challenge and now the Academy, we'd say that difference is subtle, at least as it applies to the one-day program.
