needs cleaned up and new wood applique applied and shifter knob
Brand:Pontiac Warranty:No Surface Finish:Chrome and plastic Make:Grand Prix

I have listed for sale a console pulled from a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix.  The console will work for 1967 and 1968 Full Size Pontiac Grand Prix, Catalina or Bonneville. Buyer to check application prior to bidding. The shifter is included, appears to be in working order and is nice.  The chrome on the console is really nice for the age for a used part.  One crack in the black plastic on the passenger side bottom of the console near where it goes up toward the heater unit that will not effect mounting.  It was not visible when the console was mounted in the car.  I will put a bead of superglue on the backside to prevent it from spreading. The part that runs up to the radio had a gauge mounted in the tin piece and there is a cut out for a radio and toggles (the car raced for a while in it's past) in the metal part behind the tin panel which will not effect mounting or using a wood grain applique to restore.  A woodgrain applique is available and I used it on my console and it worked nicely. The dry woodgrain on the console comes off with a razor blade.  Console lid is nice and box itself seems good.  The shifter to trans cable does not come with it, I have it but I am keeping it as a spare for my 68 GP.

2012 Mercedes SL – the aluminium supercar

Wed, 23 Nov 2011

2012 Mercedes SL - it's got a lot of aluminium It’s perhaps a step too far to describe the 2012 Mercedes SL as an aluminium supercar, but there is no doubt the 2012 SL will be a super car, and that it gets made from aluminium instead of steel. And the 2012 SL 63 AMG will undoubtedly be in the supercar league. Just like Jaguar, Mercedes sees the liberal use of aluminium as a cost-effective way to make its cars both lighter and more rigid.

Videos: Chris Bangle shares his views on design and the future of car design

Wed, 26 Oct 2011

Chris Bangle is a man that needs no introduction on these pages. Both revered and castigated, Bangle's work has undoubtedly been influential for a generation of designers. His unconventional practices – employed at a time when design was still largely segregated from other departments during the development process – yielded many avantgarde and contentious designs, but Bangle's fundamental understanding of the design process, creative vision and desire for change can never be cast in doubt. While Bangle shares his views on the future of the car in the video to the right, the video to the left provides an insight into the former BMW design chief's thought processes and gives us a glimpse into his home and studio in the Piedmont region of northern Italy.
