THE NEXT Volvo XC90 will be able to brake itself if its driver attempts to pull out in front of an oncoming car, as one of two world-first safety innovations. This auto-brake technology detects whether an approaching car is technically on a collision course and will hit the stoppers to prevent a possible accident. However, there is no mention of an increased risk of rear-end collisions where drivers following the XC90 might also accelerate, not expecting the Volvo to stop suddenly.

Influential Ferrari expert Gerald Lee Roush, the founding editor and publisher of the Ferrari Market Letter, died on May 21 after complications from a heart attack. He was 68. Born in Durango, Colo., Roush started his publication while teaching history at Abraham Baldwin College, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Galpin Auto Sports Reveals 1000-hp GTR1

As you read this, Beau Boeckmann of Galpin Auto Sports should be pulling the cover off the GTR1, a 1000-hp supercar based on the Ford GT. Right about now the 3000 guests of The Quail should be oohing and ahhing at the car's Aston Martin “lightning silver” paint and subtly muscled haunches, probably hearing about how G.A.S. swapped out the supercharger on the 5.4-liter V8 and replaced it with twin 61-mm turbochargers making almost double the horsepower of the stock car.
