May 2009: UK new car sales and trends analysis

By Peter Adams Motor Industry 04 June 2009 12:00 The scrappage scheme was supposed to give the UK car market a massive boost, but latest figures out today show new car registrations are still down by more than a quarter. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reports that new car registrations fell 24.8% in May 2009 to 134,858 units. However, this fall marks an improvement on earlier months of the year.

This is VW's new Scirocco GT24 concept and it's appearing at the Wörthersee Tour alongside the Audi TT and A3 Clubsport Quattros. The Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 concept is a road version of the trio of racecars (pictured bottom far right) that will compete in this weekend’s Nürburgring 24-hour race.

Chrysler sets prices on the 200 sedan, Town & Country minivan

The base model of Chrysler's new 200 sedan will cost $20,745, including destination charges. The top models will come in at $25,245, the company said on Wednesday. The 200 is Chrysler's newest model in the midsize-sedan segment, replacing the Sebring.
