This gear option is back - along with a New Posi Unit to get it to the ground

Made from USA forgings the 8620 steel ring gear has been held to the most rigid specifications.  The pinion is made from 8620 billet bar stock and both heat-treated and finish ground to specifications of + or - .0002.  That is 10 times thinner than a human hair!       Each gear set is lapped to its mating gear, all set-up information is etched into the gears and each gear set is serial numbered.

DO NOT confuse the standard GM 8.2 gear with the ROBUST Buick 8.2 ring and pinion.  Buick did their homework!

NOTABLE FEATURES:  Buick 8.2 uses 10 left hand thread 7/16" diameter ring gear bolts (same size as Ford 9") -- Buick 8.2 uses a larger 27 spline pinion yoke as opposed to Chevy 8.2 with 25 spline  -- Buick 8.2 uses a huge 1.875 pinion bearing that even dwarfs the Ford 9 inch   -- Buick 8.2 uses oversize bearing and cap on the ring gear side of posi units for added strength -- Buick 8.2 uses the Mechanics 3R U-joint for reliability -- Buick 8.2 uses a much heavier rear end axle housing for rigidity -- Buick 8.2 uses a much lower pinion center line (hypoid) in relationship to the ring gear providing much more tooth contact area, as did the Ford 9" -- Buick 8.2 uses axles retained WITHOUT using the dreadful "C" clips!  All Chevy 10 and 12 bolt rear ends use this "C" clip system and many quarter panels have been destroyed from this poor design.

Yes, this is an 8.2 ring gear as are the Chevy and Pontiac, but that is where the similarities end.  THIS is an overlooked, dependable rear axle assembly and needs to be revisited by the "BUICK BOYS"!

IMPORTANT: To utilize our 3.42 Buick gear sets you must use a Factory Series III open carrier or an Original Factory Series III Posi Carrier (Series III  carriers had 3.23 or 3.42 original gear ratios)  OR you can purchase Fabcraft's Custom Auburn Posi that will accommodate this set-up

Please call for more information and to be sure we get you set up correctly

New Maserati Kubang SUV (2012) arrives at Frankfurt

Tue, 13 Sep 2011

New Maserati Kubang We’ve been predicting the arrival of a Maserati SUV for some time, but the recent launch of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee made it almost certain. And today the new Maserati Kubang arrives at Frankfurt, to the consternation of all Maserati fan boys. But whatever the fans of the marque may say, an SUV from Maserati is a very clever move.

100 years of Aston Martin

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

The history of Aston Martin is peppered with brilliant cars: the 1.5-liter, the Ulster, the DB4, the Zagato. The list is endless. Beautiful, yet powerful, on the road; glamorous, yet quick, on the track, Aston Martin has come to personify that special variety of tasteful, very British gentleman's sports car.

Suzuki Swift Sport (2011) first official picture

Wed, 10 Aug 2011

This is the new Suzuki Swift Sport, a lovely little hot (well, warm) hatch that will be officially revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show in September. And you can forget about the current crop of turbocharged and big power-chasing hot hatches – this Swift Sport uses a naturally aspirated engine good for just 134bhp… 134bhp! I know the last Suzuki Swift Sport wasn’t big on power but Minis and VXR Corsas boast over 200bhp… Yes, but that’s not the point.
