Car manufacturing halted in Japan

Nissan cars awaiting export wrecked by Tsunami In the wake of the devastating earthquake and Tsunami that struck Japan last week, the domestic car industry has ground to a halt. GM disbands unit that creates high-performance vehicles

General Motors, focusing on mainstream products in a battle to survive, has scrapped a unit that produced high-performance vehicles. GM on Wednesday disbanded High Performance Vehicle Operations, which is based at the company's suburban Detroit technical center, and redeployed its engineers, spokesman Vince Muniga said. "All high-performance projects are on indefinite hold," Muniga said.

Taking center stage today at the Top Marques show, Monaco, was the Spada Codatronca Monza. Essentially a roofless, hardcore track focused version of the 2007 Coupe, the Monza is a pure sports car. Penned by Ercole Spada, the Monza is a light weight sports car that retains the taught, angular surfacing of the coupe and familar aggressive DRG and tapered rear but loses all forms of weather proofing in the name of weight.
