Back in the 1950s, '60s and '70s and even earlier, before computers came into use, body and repair shops would subscribe to Motor's Crash Book Illustrations and Motor's Crash Book Service, which helped them prepare estimates on body work after a car was crashed, hence, the name "crash book." Collectors of today like them because they identify lots of parts and show exploded views of how your car's body goes together. An exploded view shows each part separately in the order that they go together. Normally, an illustration will show how both bumpers are attached, the body panels, mouldings, roof, grille, radiator and related parts, front suspension, steering linkage and some have frame diagrams with dimensions that were used in those years to "pull out" a bent frame. There is no information about the engine, tires or interior. Illustrations were published for all domestic makes and models.

These illustrations are not intended to replace the use of a manual for repairs. These sheets are 8 1/2" x 11", and some may feel that these illustrations are too small to be helpful. Their intent is simply to inform you about your car, and some mechanically-minded persons might find them helpful in easy repairs. Some collectors use to them to check their vehicles for all factory-made mouldings, things like that.

This set of illustrations is composed of 6 pages (three sheets of paper printed front and back). These illustrations address the areas of: identification; wheel alignment and steering geometry, including toe-in, camber, caster, steering axis inclination, turning angle and wheelbase; exterior views, with mouldings and body parts identified; the Coronet and RT Grille exploded; exterior views of the 1968 Coronet 500 Convertible, with body parts and mouldings identified; the Charger grille; exploded views of the Charger headlamp, front bumper; the Coronet & RT front and rear bumpers; the Charger rear bumper; the station wagon rear bumper; front fender; steering linkage exploded; the front suspension exploded; the power steering gear exploded; the manual steering gear exploded, with a small underbody diagram with dimensions.

Taken from the introduction to Motor's Crash Book Illustrations is this paragraph: "The illustrations contained in this manual ... portray assemblies and components as the automobile manufacturers portray them and serve a useful purpose in acquainting one with the relationship of each component with another. Because of limitations, the details of each component cannot always be portrayed. Therefore, all components are not always illustrated and occasionally, it is necessary to illustrate what is typical, rather than exact in detail."

These pages are actual pages from a real body shop's subscription manual. If there is a pinkish or grayish cast to the photo, that comes from the scanner and does not appear on the actual pages. These pages are ivory or cream in color. They are in very good condition with no stains or marks. Some darkening along page edges and upper corner of all pages is bent.

Your pages will come in an archival-safe, acid-free sheet protector. They will ship in a rigid cardboard Stay-Flat Mailer. Standard shipping is by First Class Mail with tracking number.

World's most expensive Alfa Romeo sold at auction

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

The Alfa Romeo that was the brainchild of Mussolini has sold for nearly £6m at auction. The Italian dictator commissioned the Alfa Romeo 8C-35 to conquer Hitler's dominance of pre-war racing. Built in time for the 1935 Italian Grand Prix, the 8C-35 smashed the competition with racing star Tazio Nuvolari at the wheel and confirmed its fate as one of the most successful racing cars ever. At last weekend's Goodwood Revival, the 8C-35's place in the history books was confirmed as it became the most expensive Alfa Romeo ever to sell at auction. Selling for £5,937,500, the Alfa Romeo eclipsed the previous record of £4,245,118, held by a 1933 8C 2300 Monza, sold in 2010.
