Bloodhound SSC (2010) at Farnborough air show

Mon, 19 Jul 2010

Project Bloodhound today unveiled the new SSC record-breaker-to-be at the 2010 Farnborough International Air Show. It's an apt show debut for the SSC, with its 1000mph target land speed. So this is the real Bloodhound SSC?Not quite yet. This is the first full-scale model, so don't expect any burn-outs or high-speed tests at the Farnborough runway.

Ford drives the Peel P50 in to the new Transit – and turns it around

Tue, 06 May 2014

The Peel P50 drives in to the new Ford Transit The new Ford Transit offers lots of room for ‘Stuff’, something Ford decided to demonstrate by enlisting the world’s smallest car to demonstrate. It may be simply a take on Jeremy Clarkson’s games with the Peel in and around the BBC Television Centre – and you don’t get John Humphries driving the Peel or Fiona Bruce (and her bottom) pushing it back out – but you do get a good idea of just how big the new Transit is. We’re not entirely sure that turning the Peel around in the Transit – and yes, this Peel is fitted with a reverse gear, unlike Clarkson’s – demonstrates the Transit is any bigger than just driving in and driving out would, but the endless faffing to achieve an about turn is an excuse to use some Benny Hill-esque music to pass the time.

Volkswagen Beetle Dune concept edging towards production

Tue, 24 Jun 2014

The Volkswagen Beetle Dune frolicking on the beach Back at the Detroit Motor Show in January, the Volkswagen Beetle Dune concept arrived as the perfect accessory for an outdoor lifestyle – especially if you’re in Southern California. Riding higher than a regular Beetle, with big wheels and a rack on the back for surf boards, sand boards or skis, the Beetle Dune Concept looked very close to a production car. Now, with Summer upon us, Volkswagen has released some new photos of the Dune concept frolicking around sunny locations in Germany and pointing firmly towards a production version.
