To comply with eBay's selling practices policy: This grille has light screw head marks on most mounting areas like it was temporarily installed on a car and it has small imperfection areas on the chrome trim, but otherwise to us its appearance is like NOS.
Brand:GM Placement on Vehicle:Front Manufacturer Part Number:3994762 Warranty:No Interchange Part Number:3994763 Country/Region of Manufacture:United States Other Part Number:3994764

Whether you want to have the correct parts for your car, have a spare, and/or as an investment, here is a very nice grill that is original GM, made in U. S. A., and according to GM parts history catalog this part number has not been made for over 40 years!  This grille has light screw head marks on the mounting areas (which should be covered by attachment screws anyway when mounted) like it was temporarily fitted on a car and it has small imperfection areas on the chrome trim, but otherwise to us its appearance is like NOS.  Most notable area (close-up in 5th picture) is on upper passenger side.  As this imperfection is small in size and the upper valence panel will overhang the imperfection, it will seldom be seen. Imperfections in the chrome trim were common on the NOS '72 Camaro grills we have seen over the years.  The bright white areas on the chrome trim shown in some of the photos are camera flash reflections.  Chrome is often difficult to photograph.

This grill has the correct-for-'72 Camaro full mesh grill.  The reproduction '72-73 Camaro grille that we have seen in catalogs incorrectly has a section of the mesh/grid deleted. The deleted section is for the '73 Camaro hood release that is lower than that of the 72's. Presumably this grille can be used for the 73 Camaro if a section of the grille is modified.

Use as-finished for base models or paint black for Z28 or SS '72 Camaro.  This does not fit the Rally Sport front end.

Also valuable, this grill has 3994763 molded onto the back which we doubt the reproduction grills have and we believe 3994763 was GM's P/N for the grill mesh/grid.  When GM workers painted it argent (silver) and installed the chrome trim, it became grill assembly P/N 3994762.  As we read the Chevrolet parts book and '72 Camaro assembly manual, when P/N 3994762 is painted black as required it becomes GMs' replacement for P/N 3994764 [for Z28 & SS].

P/N 3994762 superseded P/N 3994764.  GM Parts Division provided argent-finished standard grills to its dealers for the '72 Camaro.  The Chevrolet parts book has a note to "paint [black] as required on certain models".  According to the '72 Camaro assembly manual sheet 13C-1, "certain models" refers to RPO LS3, L48, & Z28.  According to GM parts history catalog December 1975, P/N 3994762 was discontinued on 9/75.

Please review the photos for additional description.  The last photo is a view from below as if installed.  GM did not texture and paint the underside of the mesh/grid it looks to us like it is smooth grey plastic.

Wed, 02 May 2012

Opel has taken on the winner of last year's Car Design News – Opel/Vauxhall Interactive Design Competition, Victor Uribe, to work as the latest addition to its creative design team. Uribe, a Transportation Design graduate from Istituto Europeo Di Design in Turin, Italy, emerged as the winner in the exterior design category for his submission, ‘Lounge in Motion', and won himself a six-month internship at the Opel/Vauxhall's European Design Studio in Rüsselsheim, Germany. "I met fantastic people who taught me a lot and helped me to refine my design skills.

One Lap of the Web: Bugatti state of mind

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

-- Last week, we looked at the new Bugatti exhibit at the Mullin Museum, which taught us more about Bugatti in an afternoon than the last three years of idly flipping through Pebble Beach programs. Having thus immersed ourselves in the House That Ettore Built, we'd really like to drive to work in a faithful Type 35 replica by the aptly named Pur Sang, which Mark Dixon of Octane drove for his 140-mile commute. "You need to keep the revs up while the engine clears its throat and warms its plugs," he writes.
