The two premium brands reckon working together might just stave off the threat of the credit crunch, collapsing car sales in key markets and the uncertainty wobbling the very foundations of the motor industry. But the BMW-Merc collaboration is proving difficult, according to executives in Germany contacted by CAR.

Jaguar confirms F-type engines, XJ Ultimate at Beijing

Jaguar used the 2012 Beijing motor show to announce a raft of new engines - including details of the V6 which will power the F-type and news that a four-cylinder, Ford Ecoboost related petrol engine will be fitted to the XJ. It's downsizing to the maximum. It also unveiled the £123,000 XJ Ultimate, the highest spec yet seen on its aluminium luxury car - replete with champagne cooler, a pair of massaging back seats and iPads for the rear passengers.

Kia opens new Design Center America

Kia Motors has opened its new Design Center America, located adjacent to the new US corporate headquarters in Irvine, California, about 40 miles southeast of Los Angeles. The opening ceremony of the new US 21.8-acre Kia Corporate campus was held on June 24 and was presided by Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of Kia Motors America and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia. He was joined at the ceremony by both local and state representatives, as well as members of the media and guests.
