Algae-derived biodiesel blend hits San Francisco-area gas stations
Thu, 15 Nov 2012Environmentally conscious drivers may have a new way of fueling up: a diesel fuel blend that consists of 20 percent algae-derived biofuel and 80 percent regular diesel arrived at four gas stations in the San Francisco Bay area earlier this week. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the fuel retails for $4.25 per gallon—the same cost as conventional diesel in the region. B20 is billed as compatible with any diesel-powered vehicle.

Designed by JAC's Turin-based design team, the concept showcases both a hybrid powertrain and a new A-segment chassis that houses a lithium ion battery in the center tunnel. The styling is meant to convey both a sense of 'natural electricity' and the fluid, natural strokes of Chinese calligraphy. It’s called the Ford Shelby GT500KR, in homage to the 1968 original, and just 1000 Coupes go on sale in spring 2008. KR means King of the Road, a name GM had intended to use until Shelby got wind of it and grabbed the crown first.
