Thu, 21 Nov 2013Jaguar F-Type Coupe glitzy L.A. debut Jaguar promised the new F-Type Coupe would get a proper high-profile reveal on the eve of the Los Angeles Auto Show, and they certainly delivered. Jaguar’s design guru – Ian Callum – had told Jaguar’s PR people that he wanted the debut to be at speed, and that was achieved by driving the F-Type Coupe in to a specially prepared warehouse in California at 100mph, cutting a swathe through a series of sharp spotlights as the F-Type arrived in the arena.
Finalists announced in Fiat UK's 'Smiles per Hour' design competition
Thu, 11 Sep 2008Fiat UK has picked five finalists in the ‘Smiles per Hour Design Competition', a design contest we first told you about back in July. The aim of the competition was to find a budding designer in Britain who would develop a clever and amusing new way to travel. Following an initial judging process, the selection for best designs comprised of Simon Tarrant's 'Street Rower'; Nick Rawcliffe's 'Snowbone'; Natalie Daghestani's 'Hylo female commuter shoe'; Steven Spong's ‘Longbow'; and Harley Zblewski's 'Suitcase Car' - a design we first saw at Coventry University's annual Degree Show in June.
General Motors design landmark gets second life--as a school
Tue, 14 Jul 2009"The profession was invented in this room,” says Richard Rogers, president of the College for Creative Studies (CCS), as he stands in the dusty construction site that used to be the General Motors Argonaut Building. “And this is where Harley Earl's office was.” Looking across the top floor of the building, it is easy to see a circle of concrete like the landing mark of a flying saucer. The circle is the remnant of an early platform for clay models, developed here for the first time as design tools for mass-production autos.
