SILK 700S Sabre Mark 2

Owners Handbook.

Silk was a handmade 700c two stroke, water cooled, twin cylinder motorcycle made between 1974 and 1979.

The factory was at Silk Engineering (Derby) Limited. Boars Head Mill, Darley Abbey, Derby, England.

Each owners handbook was individually made for each separate machine.

This handbook is credited to Chassis Number 700S/1/11. That frame number corresponds correctly to Engine Number 700/12. The Mark 1 machines are donated by the /1/ in the frame number. The engine and frame numbers for the mark 1 bikes are always one number apart.  The later Mark 2 machines have frame/engine numbers two digits apart. This was due to the 500cc and 800cc race engines that were built.

The book was issued in May 1977.

There are 10 chapters to the book.

Contents.

A/ Introduction.

B/ Description of Motorcycle.

C/ Technical Data.

D/ Controls and Adjustment.

E/ First 2000 Miles.

F/ Starting Procedures.

G/ Routine Maintenance.

H/ Wheel Removal.

Z/ Maintenance Data at a Glance.

     Illustrations.

It is a 'Loose Leaf' book in a W.H Smith binder.

I believe that it is a factory photocopy of the original. But may be an owner photocopy.

The condition is 'good' to 'average'.

It is a rather amateurishly and crudely made manual, full of overtypes, corrections and additions.

This is the only Silk 700 owners handbook you'll ever likely to see for sale. It's certainly the only one I've ever seen.

All proceeds go to late friends widow.

STOP PRESS. On closer inspection I now believe it's a photocopy of a Mark one manual converted to late model cast wheel Mark 2 manual.

Sorry for the confusion, and many thanks to the Silk owners I've talked to.

Price reduced 50% to clear.

Check out the matching pre-60s vintage Royal Enfield, BSA, Douglas, Triumph, and A.J.S books also for sale. I combine shipping.

Infiniti's new M and hybrids at Geneva motor show

Wed, 03 Mar 2010

Infiniti, Nissan’s upmarket wing, can finally have a serious stab at the European luxury car market after launching its Renault-based turbodiesel V6. Its pleasingly idiosyncratic range of cars – ultra modern, finely crafted and mostly fun to drive – have been hamstrung in the showrooms by a range of V6 and V8 petrol engines which have been designed for customers in Los Angeles or Boston, not London or Berlin. Of a diesel, there has been no sign.

Ferrari 599 Hybrid – it’s a very ‘Green’ Ferrari

Sat, 27 Feb 2010

The very green Ferrari 599 Hybrid at Geneva To a die-hard petrol head, Ferrari lover or frankly anyone with a proper sense of right and wrong, the idea of a ‘Green’ Ferrari is anathema. Fortunately, although I suppose you could consider the Ferrari 599 Hybrid ‘Green’ in the sense that it will probably produce less CO2 (which is, of course, the single most important thing for  Ferrari), the performance of this 599 Hybrid  is going to be its forte, and the real green bit on this particular 599 Hybrid is the hideous paint job. We’ve known for a while that Ferrari were working on a Hybrid, and we recently revealed it would be a hybrid version of the Ferrari 599.

No sign of global auto meltdown at Tokyo Auto Salon

Mon, 19 Jan 2009

With more than 600 cars on display and a record number of exhibitors, nothing at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon tuner show hinted at the global economic downturn. As always, there was a great mix of styles, from hard-core, 1,000-hp, supertuned machinery to weird customized scooter tricycles. Auto manufacturers tried hard to capture the minds--if not the wallets--of the younger-than-30 crowd with customized versions of production cars, while tuners were busy persuading power junkies to choose them for their next engine modification.
