The new S-Class is replacing a model series which is the world number 1 in the luxury class, and of which around 485,000 have been produced since its introduction in 1998. German car makers are dropping big engines

Earlier this week, news came from BMW that its next generation of ‘M’ cars will forsake the V10s so beloved of M owners, and will instead go for turbo versions of the V8.

In the real world it should have gone out of business, but in the political world that would probably be unacceptable to the American public. So it’s busy grovelling to Congress to acquire sufficient funding to stay alive until it can produce products the buying public might find worth having.
