Hyundai Suicide ‘Advert’ causes a rumpus
Fri, 26 Apr 2013It’s not easy advertising your wares and finding the right balance between mainstream and innovative to capture attention, as Hyundai has found out to their cost with an ‘advert’ for the hydrogen powered ix35 FCEV which, rather distastefully, depicts a man trying to commit suicide by running a hose from the tailpipe to the cabin before realising he can’t achieve his aim as the FCEV’s only emissions are water. It’s a proper cock-up from Hyundai – usually so sure-footed with their PR – but, despite Hyundai US putting the blame at the door of Hyundai UK, there’s more to this suicide ‘advert’ than meets the eye. It seems the suicide video was put together by Innocean – a European Ad Agency owned by Hyundai’s Chairman Chung Mong-koo and his daughter, and responsible for much of Hyundai’s marketing output – and was a clumsy attempt to gauge reaction to the somewhat macabre take on the benefits of an FCEV.
Two LaFerraris test at Fiorano Circuit
Tue, 17 Sep 2013We don't need to say much about this video of two Ferrari LaFerraris testing at the Fiorano Circuit in Italy --caught by spy videographer extraordinaire Marchettino --except for “turn it up to 11.” In fact, we recommend you use a headphone-to-RCA converter and plug it in to the loudest stereo you have. That's the only way you can truly appreciate the Italian-opera wail coming from the 963 hp, 6.3-liter V12 as it boogies around the 1.8-mile, 12-turn test track. Marchettino said the camouflaged car must have a different exhaust because it sounded so much louder.
Aston Martin Rapide – First customer car
Fri, 07 May 2010The first Aston Martin Rapide leaves the factory It may not seem the biggest news in the world – Aston Martin Rapide leaves factory for customer’. After all, that is rather the point. But the gestation of the AM Rapide seems to have been so long it’s quite hard to remember who owned Aston Martin when the Rapide first poked its very elegant nose above the parapet, so it seems a big deal that complete cars are now heading out to customers.
