SEAT UPHOLSTERY INSTALLATION

The seat upholstery is made to fit as tight as the originals.  Do not pull at seams excessively as it is possible to tear upholstery at these points.

1.      Remove the seat from the vehicle and separate the seat back from the bottom.

2.      Remove the old seat upholstery and hog rings – note the fastening points.  New upholstery will fasten at or near these same locations.

3.     Make any necessary repairs or replacements to the pads, springs and frame.

4.     The backrest upholstery and seat upholstery are not interchangeable.

5.     Turn the backrest upholstery inside out and place on top of the backrest.  Slide down evenly while unrolling the upholstery working each side until they are even.

Install hog rings where required working from the center to each side.  Wherever there is Velcro for an attachment the hog rings are not required.  Adjust the Velcro to align the back rest pleats with the bench seat pleats.

6.     Turn the seat bottom upholstery inside out and place on the front of the seat.  Make sure the center of the upholstery is aligned with the center of the seat back upholstery.  Pull the upholstery over each front corner working each side toward the back until they are even.  Install the hog rings one at a time where required and start in the center working toward the sides.

Note:  If your upholstery set has a plastic “J” channel there are no hog rings required in that area.  Simply snap the plastic channel onto the metal flange on the bottom of the seat frame.

7.      Re-assemble the seat and install back in the vehicle.

Installation is easier if the upholstery is warm.  Vinyl has more elasticity and is easier to contour.

A thin layer of plastic put over the cushions will help make the seat upholstery slide down over the backrest and seat pad.

Fisker Karma recalled over fire risk

Sun, 19 Aug 2012

The Fisker Karma range-extender EV is being recalled over a fire risk from a faulty cooling fan. We’re not sure how many Fisker Karmas there are in the UK (well, there should be at least one), but so far it appears that there are a surprising 1,900 in the wild. Now those 1,900 (or 2,400 if you count all the Karamas built and heading for customers) are to be recalled after fire destroyed two Karmas in the US.

“War on Motorists over” – Philip Hammond

Fri, 14 May 2010

Philip Hammond vows to end the War on Motorists Now there’s a damn fine start to Philip Hammond’s stint as Secretary of State for Transport - the end of the Government war on motorists. It’s also a good headline for the Tories, but what’s the meat? Actually, quite promising. Philip has announced that there will be an end to funding speed cameras.
