Camaro plant gets more work; recall issued

The strong early demand for the Chevrolet Camaro has General Motors looking to crank more units out of the Oshawa, Ontario, assembly plant. The Oshawa plant was exempt from GM's recent announcement of shutdowns of as long as nine weeks for several of its plants--primarily those that build pickups and SUVs. Oshawa will increase Camaro output by adding overtime and an extra week to the plant's production schedule.

More than 40 years later, that's an honor Bortz wears with pride, but it speaks to only a part of his collection of machinery. Detroit represented the big, bad gas-guzzling old school, but the forward-thinking culture of southern California meant the relaxed atmosphere of the LA Convention Centre was the perfect setting to preview the smaller, more compact and more fuel-efficient future. This year it was different.
