Tue, 28 Apr 2009After a boat trip down the Huangpo River in the evening of the first day to give delegates and speakers a chance to mix more informally, it was soon time to get back on with the second day of the conference. This saw a speaker and panel line-up including experts from Lotus, Bertone, Geely, the Royal College of Art, Tsinghua University and Art Center Pasadena, covering sessions as diverse as environmental design, better car design education and brand identity. Session 5 - Eco design future This environmentally focused session was kicked off by a thoughtful speech from Nathan Mullinix, VP research and development for leather supplier and conference sponsor Eagle Ottawa.

It’s Audi’s first hybrid road car, and combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, an electric motor and lithium-ion batteries in a Q5 SUV body. Unfortunately this system isn’t Audi’s much-anticipated electric Quattro system, with a combustion engine driving the front wheels and an electric-powered rear axle – the Q5 Hybrid has permanent four-wheel drive.

Thu, 27 Mar 2014The Volvo S60 with KERS Flywheel (pictured) boosts economy and performance As car makers continue to get bashed by more and more stringent CO2 targets from governments around the world, cleverer solutions are called for to squeeze the best performance and economy balance possible from their products. And Volvo’s new Flywheel KERS system does look promising. Volvo are currently running UK tests of a KERS flywheel system developed by Flybrid Automotive, which takes kinetic energy generated under braking and stores it in a flywheel fitted to the back axle.
