General Motors combines smartphone functions with the Chevrolet Volt

General Motors is bringing together two of the hottest areas of technology--smartphones and plug-in electric cars. GM's OnStar telematics unit has developed a downloadable application that will let Chevrolet Volt drivers use a Blackberry Storm, Apple iPhone or Motorola Droid to remotely control and monitor some vehicle functions, such as charging. The Volt is slated to go into production late this year and arrive in California utility company fleets by early 2011.

LTU Inaugural Transportation Design Show

On Thursday 8 May 2008, Lawrence Technological University (LTU) celebrated their Inaugural Transportation Design Freshmen Show at the school's campus in Southfield, Michigan. The Inaugural Show - sponsored Ford Motor Company - exhibited projects completed in a course of a single semester (15 weeks) from sketch to model by six freshman students. The brief was to develop a vehicle concept that utilized Ford's small vehicle platform in order to address environmental issues while attracting new customers.

GM won't show new cars in LA

GM has delayed the unveiling of two new cars the company had intended to show the press and public at the forthcoming Los Angeles auto show. The largest US automaker will now show the production versions of the Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac CTS coupe at the Detroit auto show in January instead. "We believe we can better capitalize in Detroit" said spokesman Scott Fosgard.
