We’ve talked about a hot version of the new Mercedes A Class almost since Mercedes debuted the Concept A on which the new A Class is based. Ikuo Maeda to replace Laurens van den Acker as General Manager of Design at Mazda

He replaces Laurens van den Acker, who has decided to leave Mazda to pursue other interests. Following on from the successful tenure of van den Acker, Maeda will lead the Japanese automaker's global design team and be responsible for the overall design and styling of Mazda's global products.

What we find particulary appealing about the three-pot supercharged Micra DIG-S is that it seems to offer a perfect alternative to the diesel City Car – and with much lower NOx and particulate emissions – but without the penalties in fuel economy normally associated with petrol-engined cars. Not only does it offer economy that compares favourably with a diesel-engined car of a similar size, it suffers no performance penalty either.
