Cadillac 2014 ELR [w/Gallery]

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Cadillac unveils the 2014 ELR today at the North American International Auto Show. The new luxury coupe is almost unchanged from the Converj Concept - unveiled at the 2009 NAIAS - upon which it is based and features Cadillac's signature vertical headlamps and rear lamps. The flush fascia and grille – with active shutters behind the grille opening – combined with tapered fascia corners and a raked windshield mean that drag is reduced to 0.305.

Vintage photos show Ford Mustang I and the elusive XD Cobra

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

It's hardly surprising that our readers want to share their memories of the Ford Mustang -- 50 years is a long time for an automotive nameplate to endure, and the model's upcoming 50th anniversary is as good excuse as any to look back on the experiences that have made the car an enthusiast hit. Take William Drew, who had a close encounter with pony car history when he saw the Mustang I concept, plus a rare Ghia-bodied Shelby Cobra concept, at an auto dealer in Dallas in 1970. His slides (taken with a Yashica camera, he notes) show the unusual cars in the nice, bright colors of Kodachrome.

Holden to stop making cars in Australia

Fri, 13 Dec 2013

Fresh from the news that General Motors (GM) will be pulling its Chevrolet brand out of mainstream markets in Europe, the automotive giant has now confirmed that its Australian subsidiary, Holden, will stop making cars Down Under by the end of 2017. It’s further bad news for GM, but even more so for the 2,900 Australian people who are set to lose their jobs as a result of the closure. And it’s a sad and disappointing end for the famous Holden marque, which can trace its history back as far as 1856.
