But car makers best laid plans usually go awry now the world has smartphone cameras and the Interwebs are beckoning, so it’s no big surprise we have the first photo of a new 2-Series – in this case the M235i – ahead of its official reveal. Snapped at a dealer presentation by a member of 2addicts forum, the new 2 Series looks pretty much like the 1-Series from the front with a coupe roof sloping down to a new back end.

Around 1000 visitors are gathering at the plant to join in with the celebrations, where the new, Chinese-built MGs will be on display (above). Changes to the XK for 2012 are pretty much as we predicted, although not quite as close to the Jaguar XKR-S as we’d thought likely. The main change on the nose is the arrival of the new headlights we saw on the XKR-S with integrated LED running lights.
