Video: Track-day fun in the Lexus LFA

Thu, 06 Oct 2011

As promised, the third installment in our supercar video extravaganza--after the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the Porsche GT2 RS--gives you the lowdown on the hyperexotic Lexus LFA and its insane 552-hp V10 powerplant. Best described by senior editor for motorsports Mac Morrison as "shrieking like a melting witch," the Lexus LFA emits a wail unlike anything this side of a Formula One racer, and its performance isn't too far off that mark, either. Check out the walk-around and some on-track fun, then come back for the VBox lap on Friday.

This particular 250 TR is something rather special – although they all are, of course – because it is one of the original prototypes for the Testa Rossa and is expected to beat the current world car auction record – around $30M for a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic – when it appears at Pebble Beach next month. Regular readers may remember that Max Girardo and team at R.M.

Mercedes did an impressive job in qualifying yesterday for the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix, but even Ross Brawn was hesitant to suggest his team could recreate their qualifying form in the race. And they couldn’t – not by a long shot. Alonso made his intentions clear at the start, moving from fifth on the grid to third by passing Raikkonen and Hamilton and headed off after Rosberg and Vettel.
