They can be applied to other items not just Rv's. They can go onto boats but I am not sure that if they were under water if they would hold up. These can be applied either by just sticking them to the item (must be clean, dry and warm) or they can be applied with what they call a wet method. Volvo Concept Coupe (2013) at Frankfurt motor show

Recruited from VW, Ingenlath says that the concept, which is underpinned by the new SPA platform (which stands for Scalable Platform Architecture) that will be used on the 2014 XC90, is both a nod to the past and a signal of intent for the future. You’ll be able to see it at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

Porsche are attempting to address criticisms of the current Cayenne by making the new Cayenne a much more road-focused car and by shedding weight from what is, by any standards, a heavyweight SUV.
