Range Rover Hybrid LWB debuts in Beijing

The Range Rover Hybrid now comes with added length We’ve already seen the Range Rover Hybrid and the LWB Range Rover, but now we get the two together with the debut of the Range Rover Hybrid LWB at the Beijing Motor Show. Just like the normal Rangie Hybrid, the LWB version comes with a 3.0 litre diesel engine coupled to an electric motor with an extra 47bhp making a total of 345bhp. It also gets extra torque – 516lb/ft.

In early 2013 Audi lost a case brought by the Advertising Standard Agency (ASA) because of ‘misleading’ fuel economy figures used in an advert, after a customer complained they couldn’t get anywhere near the 68mpg quoted. The court case once more exposes the yawning gap between officially sanctioned mpg figures and those experienced by owners. A recent study by the Independent Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) looked at cars sold in the UK and Europe, and discovered the difference between official mpg figures and real-world driving had grown from 8% in 2001 to a barely believable 21% in 2011.

Johan Schwartz shattered the Guinness World Record for longest sustained drift in a BMW M5 Saturday, completing a total of 322.5 laps and covering 51.278 miles. Schwartz, a BMW Performance Driving instructor, beat the previous 6.94-mile drift record at the BMW Performance Center in Greenville, S.C. using just one set of Continental tires.
