But that hasn’t stopped Mercedes from doing a bit of a spoiler for the show on the day before press day by releasing testing images of a disguised car, together with some solid information, instead of all the speculation we’ve been indulging in. Volkswagen to take full control of Porsche
Thu, 05 Jul 2012Volkswagen Group's decision to take full control of Porsche Automobil Holding SE's carmaking business is seen as positive by analysts. VW said it has agreed to buy the remaining 50.1 percent of Porsche SE's automotive business that it doesn't already own for 4.46 billion euros ($5.54 billion), ending a seven-year takeover saga that divided two of Germany's most powerful families. The agreement means Volkswagen can now fully fold the Porsche automaking business into its stable of brands, which range from Audi and Bentley sedans to Skoda and Seat volume models and Ducati motorbikes.

And the same is happening at Jaguar with the XF and XJ offering real competition to the German premium brands, the F-Type carving out a hugely appealing niche of its own and the new Jaguar XE on its way to take on the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class. But the missing piece of the puzzle is the introduction of a new range of engines developed and built by JLR to replace the still able, but bought-in, engines JLR currently use.
