SAIC wins LA Auto Show Design Challenge
Fri, 29 Nov 2013China's SAIC, the parent company of Roewe and MG brands (yes, Morris Garages and what used to be Rover), took the top spot in the LA Auto Show Design challenge with its Mobiliant Concept, beating other contestants like BMW DesignworksUSA, Subaru, Mazda, Changfeng, Quoros, and others. The theme for this year's challenge at the LA Auto Show was "Biomimicry & Mobility 2025: Nature's Answer to Human Challenges." Entrants were directed to propose design concepts that integrated the concept of biomimicry into transportation concepts. Quite a challenge and quite an open theme, especially when you consider that last year's theme was pretty straightforward: "Highway Patrol Vehicles in the Year 2025." In 2012 the Subaru SHARC concept took the top prize.
Pontiac Vibe
Tue, 13 Nov 2007One week after Toyota introduced its new Matrix at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, Pontiac presented the new redesigned Vibe at the LA Auto Show, a five-door hatchback short wagon that - like the Matrix - is derived from a lengthened and widened Corolla platform. Clear brand differentiation between the two cars is done through the styling of the Vibe's excusive sheet metal and different interior finishes and trim. To better relate the Vibe to the Pontiac Solstice or G8, designers wanted to express more muscle and leave behind last generation's "mini-SUV" look.
Mastretta MXT: Orders UP thanks to Top Gear
Sat, 19 Feb 2011Mastretta MXT - orders UP since Top Gear 'Insult' You might reasonably have thougt that Top Gear’s recent Mexican stand-off would have had the butt of its joke – the Mastretta MXT – suffering a severe downturn in sales. After all, according to Mexican Ambassador to London -Eduardo Medina-Mora Icaza – the Top Gear insults aimed at his country – and at Mastretta – were ‘Bigoted and Ignorant’. Which, if the comments had been anything other than a feeble attempt at a joke on national stereotypes, may have been anĀ appropriateĀ response.
