Lutz's Cadillac puts on a better show than Lutz

Fri, 30 Oct 2009

"Hi, I'm Bob Lutz, and this is the Cadillac CTS-V Drive Challenge." General Motors Co.'s marketing chief dons his monogrammed helmet and puts Cadillac's 550-horsepower sedan through some warm-up laps at Monticello Motor Club, a members-only track. In what might have passed as a dismissible moment of Lutz braggadocio, "Maximum" Bob has challenged anyone with a four-door sedan to beat his 2010 CTS-V. Though not a showman by trade, Lutz is bankable for amusing, bald-faced assessments of his employer, his critics and the auto industry at large.

McLaren F1 for sale – the best one in the world?

Tue, 30 Jun 2009

The McLaren F1 - NOT the 'New' car for sale - we're not allowed to show that picture! But with only 64 road cars made (plus the handful of LM models – which would set you back considerably more), and the ability to stand shoulder to shoulder with the modern ‘Best Car in the World’ title holder – the Bugatti Veyron – it should be no surprise that they fetch such high prices. And if any more McLaren F1s set on fire, as we reported recently, the ones left will all go up in value.

Brief 4 – GMC: CDN–GM Interactive Design Competition

Thu, 14 Aug 2014

Once again, Car Design News and General Motors are holding an Interactive Design Competition. There are five design briefs to choose from, each set by GM's design teams, and you're invited to submit your entry on the competition website: http://www.cardesigncontest.com/ The fourth of our briefs comes from GMC, GM's truck-and-utility-only brand, and asks you to design of the interior or exterior of a GMC show car to be revealed at the 2030 North American International Auto Show. Your design should focus on a future interpretation of GMC's ‘industrial sculpture' design philosophy. You'll need to bear in mind who the customer for this truck or utility vehicle is, and consider what is the purpose and application of the vehicle.
