Top Gear’s James May does 259mph in a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
Fri, 16 Jul 2010Top Gear's James May in the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport The Top Gear boys were running rumours around a few days ago that they had been in on the new world record speed for a production car set by the Veyron Super Sport. We didn’t know exactly what they’d done, but we did know none of the three amigos were at the wheel when the Super Sport averaged 267.81mph. Aston Martin in talks with Mercedes for engine supply
Thu, 09 May 2013It has seemed for some time that Aston Martin’s wish-list for future engines revolved around Mercedes. They currently use a V12 developed from Ford’s Mondeo V6 and a V8 that’s a development of the 4.2 litre that was in Jaguars (and Range Rovers) until a few years ago, but new engines (and new platforms) are vital if Aston are to remain competitive. Before the recent investment in AML by Investindustrial, there were plans for Aston to use both engines and platforms from Mercedes (the Lagonda SUV was built on the underpinnings of the Mercedes GL) and even the possibility that Aston Martin would design and build the next generation Maybach.
Ferrari F70 takes test laps
Wed, 06 Feb 2013It's a strange world we live in when, even in my short-to-medium lifespan, we've gone from the 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi making either 205 or 214 hp—depending on who you're asking—to the Ferrari F70, which is rumored to make 950 hp with its V12 and KERS system. I would put an Excel graph here, but just imagine a line going up at a 45-degree angle to infinity. With all of that in mind, here's about five minutes of the camouflaged supercar flying around the test track with fantastic audio of the Italian stallion in action.
