Between the years 2003 and 2007 General
Motors produced their pick up and SUV models with defective (recalled) parts
inside the instrument cluster. Over time the defective parts, will wear out
causing erratic movement of the gauges including the speedometer, tachometer,
fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, volt gauge and the optional
transmission temperature gauge.
Common symptoms of
motor failure are: Dead or sticky gauges, Gauges giving obviously wrong readings,
Needles "pegging out"or showing maximum readings, Intermittent
operation of gauges and Speedometer that read roughly half or even double theactual
vehicle speed. Obviously this situation can lead to potential speeding
tickets. Even unsafe conditions if the
driver is startled at the incorrect reading while driving. Commonly, fuel gauge
failure has led to drivers being stranded along the road as they attempt to
measure their fuel by miles driven on the odometer.
If you
find yourself with a GM vehicle that has any of these problems you have a few
options. First, you can consider buying a used cluster assembly from a salvage
yard or "junk yard". Be aware however, you must have the mileage
programmed from the dealer and all used clusters will have the same defective
parts and will also fail in time.
Second, you can take your GM vehicle to the
local dealership. They will replace the entire part with a price tag between
$400 and $800 with an extended down time of at least 1-2 weeks.
Third, you can have your original instrument
cluster repaired by a professional speedometer repair business
(www.RepairMyGauge.com). The best for many GM owners as it requires no
re-programming fees, little or no down time and the least overall cost of all
the options.

Mercedes ESF 2009 Concept
Wed, 10 Jun 2009The Mercedes ESF 2009 Concept showcases a raft of new safety technology So Mercedes has unveiled the Mercedes ESF 2009 Concept, which is a test-bed to showcase the latest technology Mercedes sees as on its way to mainstream. Mercedes has based the ESF Concept on the latest addition to the Mercedes S-Class Range – the S400 Hybrid – and has packed it to the rafters with airbags. There’s one that pops up between front seat passengers; airbags actually in the seatbelts and one great big airbag under the car that inflates if a crash is imminent.
After a rocky start, Honda's CR-Z joins U.S. hybrid derby
Mon, 08 Mar 2010Honda Motor Co.'s new CR-Z sporty hybrid is the car that nearly wasn't. The wedge-shaped, two-seat hatchback was almost killed twice because engineers weren't convinced it was a unique concept and because U.S. bosses originally didn't want it.
Toyota FT-EV II – it’s the Jetsons!
Tue, 06 Oct 2009The Toyota FT-EV II Electric city car concept As we reported earlier, Toyota believe electric cars have no future, apart from as short-range, low power city runarounds or as commercial vehicles. So the Toyota FT-EV II is exactly what Toyota believes the EV future is – a small, slow city car. Toyota say of the FT-EV – “… (its) design and technology look to a future society where EVs will be in common use, among a range of different means of transport that will reflect user requirements, the type of energy used and the local energy supply infrastructure”.
