Top Gear wrecked UK Tesla Roadster sales, says Elon Musk
Tue, 15 Nov 2011Elon Musk says Top Gear responsible for poor Tesla Roadster sales in UK The moans by Tesla about the Top Gear episode where Jeremy Clarkson tested Tesla’s electric Lotus have rumbled on all year. First we had Tesla suing Top Gear in the British Courts, then Top Gear producer Andy Wilman had his say on the issue followed by Elon Musk saying that Top Gear had all the credibility of a Milli Vanilli Concert. Concept Car of the Week: IAD Alien (1986)
Fri, 06 Dec 2013Established in 1976 as a railway and aeronautical engineering company, Britain's IAD (International Automotive Design) rapidly oriented its expertise towards the automotive industry providing services from design to chassis engineering and even small-scale production. By the mid-80s two concepts had been presented – the TRX and the Arrival – that showed innovative thinking and tastefulness but a little innocuous styling. In an attempt to attract both attention and more clients, IAD CEO John Shute asked his team to design a futuristic concept that was both innovative and different.
New Peugeot 208 production cut as sales disappoint
Tue, 09 Oct 2012Peugeot is cutting back on production of the new 208 as its sales fail to reach expectations, just six months on from launch. It’s not enough when Europe is ion the midst of an economic crisis and car buyers are polarised between ‘budget’ cars that offer more for less than mainstream offerings and ‘Premium’ models that are bought on the back of a preconceived notion of more kudos. That leaves car makers like Peugeot (and Renault, Citroen, Vauxhall, Ford, Opel, Fiat…) between a rock and a hard place, unable – or unwilling – to compete with the offerings from Korea and saddled with a brand that doesn’t have the ‘class’ of an Audi or a BMW or a Mercedes or even a VW.
