The high-performance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will carry a base sticker price of $54,995 including shipping charges when it goes on sale next spring as a 2012 model. That's more than double the sticker price of a base 2012 Camaro coupe, which starts at $24,100 including shipping charges, and more than a base 2012 Chevrolet Corvette coupe, which starts at $50,500. The 2012 Camaro ZL1 packs a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 rated at 580 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque.

Volvo, Geely working on shared architecture

Geely and its Volvo ward are working at developing a new compact car architecture that will be shared by both companies. For Volvo, this means a smaller luxury car, possibly a few. The electric SLS – the Mercedes SLS Electric Drive – has been shown at Paris 2012 ahead of a 2013 launch. Mercedes are billing the electric SLS as the most powerful production electric car in the world, and with an output of 740 horses from its four electric motors – one at each corner – that’s no surprise. That output – and a torque figure of 738lb/ft – makes the electric SLS a whole heap more powerful than its ICE counterpart and allows it to get to 62mph in 3.9 seconds.
