Peugeot Onyx Hybrid Supercar Concept at Paris. UPDATED: Photos

Peugeot are teasing what appears to be the Peugeot Onyx Concept on their Facebook page, a hybrid supercar heading for the Paris Motor Show. We already know that production versions of the Peugeot 208 GTi and Peugeot XY luxury 208 are heading for the Paris Motor Show, but it appears Peugeot will have something a bit more dramatic on offer. Peugeot has revealed a teaser photo of a new concept car for Paris on their Facebook page this afternoon, and a bit of digging around French motoring web site turns up more detail.

Twenty years ago, the classic bargain brands like Lada seemed to be going the same way as the Soviet empire that spawned them. Woefully dated and badly made, only a weirdo would have bought a new Lada rather than a second-hand model from Ford, Vauxhall or VW. However, one of the big trends in the car industry today is the re-emergence of bargain cars.

The new Ka will – for the first time – be available as a diesel in the shape of the 74bhp 1.3-litre TDCI model, which can muster a very sensible 67.2mpg on the combined cycle. But don't forget that few 'mini buyers pick diesel in the UK; an oil-burning city car's price premium appears larger and economy gains smaller when compared with bigger cars, making diesel babies like hens' teeth.
