Video: Chip Foose talks about, renders his first VW Golf
Thu, 19 Jan 2012In order to promote the launch of the Golf R in the US, Volkswagen has created a series of videos featuring fans of the iconic Euro hatch for a new iPad app. Here Chip Foose, founder of Foose Design and presenter of hit TV show, Overhaulin', tells the story of his first VW Golf, a 1985 GTI. But the highlight of the video is watching Foose produce a marker rendering of the MkII GTI in his own distinct style, usually associated with the hotrod scene.
Concept Car of the Week: Nissan NX-21 (1983)
Fri, 01 Aug 2014In the early 1980s, with the new millennium still seemingly an age away, Nissan Design America was tasked with imagining the family car of the future, while giving potential buyers a preview of the forthcoming N13 NX and EXA models. The resulting concept would be shown at the Tokyo motor show in 1983. Given confidence by the increasing success and expanding global presence of Japanese cars, including the previous generation N12 NX, Nissan's designers, led by Tom Semple, decided that the NX-21 (for 21st century) was the answer.
Orphan Car Show highlights long-gone classics
Wed, 13 Oct 2010Marvelous as it is a setting for car shows, Riverside Park in Ypsilanti, Mich., does present a risk: The park is built in the floodplain of the Huron River. When organizers showed up to stage this year's Orphan Car Show--the nation's largest to feature cars built by companies that no longer do business in America--on June 6, they found the judging stand underwater. An impromptu “show” throughout nearby Depot Town and at the host Miller Motors Hudson/Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum wasn't quite the same thing.
