GM's historic Willow Run plant closes

After 68 years of arming the nation and putting America on wheels, the Willow Run manufacturing plant in southeast Michigan closed on Thursday. The 5-million-square-foot powertrain plant, owned by Motors Liquidation Corp., the remnants of the former General Motors Corp., has fallen victim to GM's 2009 bankruptcy and subsequent restructuring. About 300 workers left at the plant will either “retire, transfer to another campus or go on layoff,” said Chris Lee, a spokesman for the reorganized General Motors Co.

First customer UK Tesla Model S (pictured) will be delivered in March 2014 The Tesla Model EV may have been astonishing buyers and car journalists alike in the US for some time – and even Europe is starting to get the first taste of the Model S – but the UK and its RHD needs are lagging a bit behind. But last night there was good new for UK Tesla buyers as Elon Musk announced the first Model S to be delivered in the UK will be in March 2014. Musk also said the first owner was ‘high profile’, but declined to elaborate.

Richard Hammond gets to play with the Pagani Zonda Cinque Whilst we were busy wandering round the interweb today to make sure we’d got our facts right for the ‘Top Gear builds an Electric Car‘ piece, we came across a video of Richard Hammond out playing with the ultimate road-going Zonda – the Pagani Zonda Cinque. As all of you who watch Top Gear already know, Hammond would marry a Zonda tomorrow if he could.
