GM to build electric motors in-house

General Motors will develop and build electric motors for a rear-wheel-drive hybrid to launch in 2013. GM claims to be the first major U.S. automaker to produce electric motors in-house and says it is investing $246 million in the project.

BMW DesignworksUSA has been set the task of developing Singapore Airlines' new First Class seats and cabin interior. Given the fast-paced improvement in the quality of premium Asian air travel – Emirates and Cathay Pacific are two examples – Singapore Airlines has decided to revamp its First Class area while upgrading its in-flight entertainment system. The chief redesign will be limited to its First and Business Class sections as those are the main sources of revenue but economy passengers will see upgraded headrests and seating.

BMW's desire to compete in every conceivable luxury-market niche has moved up a gear with the unveiling of the 5-series GT, a car known until now by its working title, the Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS). Although BMW will be billing the five-door liftback as a concept at its public showing at the Geneva motor show in early March, little about its bold design is expected to change before it reaches showrooms.
