Mercedes-Benz gave its M-class SUV a mild freshening last year. But a more-thorough makeover is on the way two years from now for the 2012 model. These prototypes--the first we've seen of the new M-class--are wearing a lot of camouflage, but through the nose opening we spy a sharper grille design that looks similar to the GLK.

However, CAR has learned that they are computer-generated images of the Focus RS and do not reveal the finished item, which will be launched at the 2008 London motor show in July.The three shots were used in an internal presentation in 2007 and insiders claim the finished car is considerably different. Report backs Scottish pay-as-you-drive

SCRAPPING FUEL DUTY and car tax in Scotland and replacing them with a pay-as-you-drive system has been suggested by an independent think tank. The scheme would help reduce emissions, cut congestion and increase fairness, Reform Scotland said. The organisation has produced a report on the idea, calling for the Scottish Government to launch a feasibility study on a national and local scheme in which central government would "price" motorways and trunk roads and local authorities would "price" local roads.
