Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse sets World Speed Record: OFFICIAL
Fri, 12 Apr 2013What it was was a new world speed record for the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, Bugatti’s convertible Veyron, which had been out playing at VW’s Ehra-Lessien test track in the hands of Chinese driver Anthony Liu, and under the watchful eye of Germany’s Technical Inspection and Certification (TÜV) to certify the Vitesse’s performance. That new world speed record for an open-topped production car is now officially 408.84kph (254mph), so Bugatti are dong what Bugatti do and producing a limited edition World Speed Record car – the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse WRC Edition. The Vitesse WRC comes with Bugatti’s 7.9 litre W16 with 1184bhp, 1,106lb/ft of torque and the same orange and black colour scheme as the Grand Sport World Record Coupe got when it broke the world speed record for a production car.
Hennessey tunes Chevrolet SS to 1,000 hp
Fri, 02 May 2014Forget the Camaro Z/28 for a minute: Hennessey is offering performance packages for the Chevrolet SS that boost the car from from a not-unreasonable 475 hp to the "there's-just-no-way" 1,000 hp. That's right, Hennessey Performance saw a gap in the market for rear-wheel drive domestic sedans with 1,000 hp on tap, and like any smart business, went for it. In fact, we don't know why this niche hasn't been filled until now.
Concept Car of the Week: Volkswagen Microbus (2001)
Fri, 18 Oct 2013The turn of the millennium seemed to induce a feeling of nostalgia among car manufacturers and with it a plethora of heritage/retro designs, including the new Mini, new Ford Mustang and Nissan Z. Following the runaway success of its New Beetle, which probably started the trend, VW asked itself whether it could enjoy the same success with a modern interpretation of the legendary T1 Microbus. Designed at the surf-central design studio in Simi Valley, California, the Microbus Concept took ample inspiration from its distant ancestor, but was modernized in every way.
