Volkswagen has just announced that Walter de'Silva, 55, has been appointed Head of Volkswagen Group Design. Since March 2002, de'Silva has been Head of Design at the now discontinued Audi brand group. There, in addition to supervising the Audi brand design, he was also in charge of Seat and Lamborghini.

Porsche uses phone-formatted bar codes to connect with customers

Porsche is harnessing the power of smartphones, using Microsoft Tag bar codes to provide dealership customers with unique information about the cars they're looking at. Buyers can scan the square stickers with a properly equipped phone, and the application will take them to dedicated microsites where they can see stats, videos and pictures of the car, along with audio clips of a flat-six engine revving up. Through the microsite, buyers can provide contact info for a follow-up call from Porsche salespeople.

At approximately 6:55 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Wednesday, May 30, around the world, the engines of several thousand Shelby Mustangs, Cobras, GT40s and even a few Series 1s cranked to life and roared their terrible roars in tribute to their fallen maker, Carroll Shelby. “I've got friends in South Africa who are firing theirs up right now,” said a Shelby Mustang owner, standing amidst a sea of the barking beasts parked on the roof of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
