McLaren MP4-12C: The build begins +video

First McLaren MP4-12C being built You could be forgiven for thinking that McLaren had already started building their Ferrari 458 challenging car – the McLaren MP4-12C. But the cars we’ve seen so far – even the Volcano Orange MP4-12C from Goodwood – were prototypes; McLaren’s running test beds for tweaking and refining the MP4-12C before the first cars reach customers this year.

Mini is set to add the fifth model to its family line-up in the form of the two-seat Roadster. Based around a similar concept to the recently announced Coupe, it adopts a sportier stance as well as a focus on a more youthful market. In ditching the rear seats of the cabriolet, it becomes the first two-seat convertible in the brand's history.

As Jaguar confirmed its new F-type sports car at the 2012 New York auto show, it issued some teaser video footage of the new £55,000 roadster landing in showrooms in spring 2013. Jag ambassador and former racer Martin Brundle hitches a lift with the company's chief dynamics engineer Mike Cross for a few hot laps in the F-type prototype around its handling circuit at Gaydon. We can safely ignore the hyperbole poring forth ('It's responsive, it's a great car to drive') but it's a good chance to see the all-aluminium F-type in action.
